Statistics referenced in the Introduction of The Cross Divider – Free in Christ :
Official (older) stats:
“51% of all pastors say internet pornography is a temptation.
75% of pastors have no accountability in their internet usage.
50% of all Christian men and 20% of all Christian women say they are addicted to pornography.
Unofficial (newer) stats:
70% of all Christians say they have a daily struggle with pornography, along with 76% of pastors surveyed.
60% of all women admit ‘significant struggles with lust.’
90% of 500 Christian men, surveyed at a retreat, admitted they were feeling disconnected from God because lust, porn, or fantasy had gained a foothold in their lives.”
Liken the church to a house, and it is being consumed by the raging fire of pornography.
If it was your house, you would call 911 and have firemen with big hoses putting the fire out. You would not delay, nor on rare occasions squeeze a few squeezes from your kid’s squirt gun.
Nor, in Christ, do we look for more techniques to add to these: bounce your eyes, starve your eyes, etc. Do you not think that in nearly 2000 years, we’ve had enough time and techniques to perceive that they change nothing?
Then, what does?
A Person. Christ.
Christianity is not a religion, it is a real conversation with an actual, oh-my-god GOD Who indwells you!
If you know Him as your life (Col 3:4), you will know that He always overcomes. By knowing your new creation in Him (2 Cor 5:17, Gal 6:15), by your being one Spirit with Him (1 Cor 6:17), by yielding to Him, He will display “the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power.” Ephesians 1:19
He has beaten sin and death. Are you allowing Him to change your life? Or, do you think He only gives you how-to, do-it-yourself (DIY) techniques? If you could do it yourself, you wouldn’t need Him.
“(39) You search the scriptures, thinking that in them you have eternal life. But, the scriptures testify of Me, (40) And you will not come to Me, that you might have life.” John 5:39-40
It’s not about eternal life things, nor principles and precepts things. They don’t save. They don’t deliver. They don’t overcome.
But, He does.
Do you have Him?
Do you know Him?
