I love the movie Groundhog Day.
It’s a repetitive day (Feb 2) in which ‘it’s all about ME weatherman’ Phil Connors flurries abuse, rudeness, and vulgarity, until he turns and gets it right.
Ever want a do-over, until you get it right?
Phil is at first disbelieving, as each Ground Hog day in the loop kicks off to ‘I Got You Babe.’
Despite abusing those he repeatedly meets, there are no consequences.
Meaninglessness leads to outrageous suicides that make us laugh at his creative, comedic ends.
He acknowledges what is happening to him and wonders what it all means.
Gradually, Phil notices those whom he’s blindly transgressed.
Despair, death, need and hurt can be intervened.
His inward myopia morphs to self-oblivious, genuine care.
In the end, his strategy to get all becomes a natural give all.
After exalting others, he is exalted, because of the love he has shown.
Of course, this is a movie, and life and love are only fully known in The Son.
And, today is not Groundhog Day, despite the repeated commonness of our days.
We don’t wake up to the same old days.
He kisses you awake, caresses your temple, and tells you how desperately He loves you … and wants to love others through you.
And, in your outer focus on Him, He exalts you in Himself.
Get out there and let Him show you how He loves.
“(6) Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time: (7) Casting all your cares upon Him; for He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:6-7
