Be Christlike?

The song says, “Be like Jesus, this my song, in the home and in the throng. Be like Jesus all day long. I would be like Jesus.”

Are you supposed to be like Jesus?

Be Christlike?

Not like you might think, nor like you’ve probably heard.

What does being Christlike mean?

  • Try to be like Him.
  • Imitate/mimic Him.
  • Act like Him.
  • WWJD

What’s implied in these?

That Christ is somewhere else far from you, that you can only imitate Him.

This view does not assume an intimate relationship with God in you.

But, our assumptions are not at all what the Christian life actually is!

That is why we’ve seen no real change in our lives – we’ve looked past our Dearest Three in One.

So, which relationship do you prefer?

  • an intimate relationship with the Ones Who loved you through a cross, or
  • a distant relationship where you just try to be like your Hero

We need to experience the reality that the Father is not only on His Throne, and the Son is not only at the Father’s right-hand.

Let me have the relationship with the Ones Whom the scripture says are here in me now. The Ones Who will never ever leave me.

We have been made one with God.

God is in you, and you are in God.

Be sure to look below to the Christlikeness section for the Epistles, for the distinction in relationship.

(62) And Jesus said to him, No man, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.” Luke 9:57-62

“(26) If any man comes to Me, and does not hate his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brothers, and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple. (27) And whoever does not bear his cross, and come after Me, cannot be My disciple.” Luke 14:26-27

(25) And He said to them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they who exercise authority upon them are called benefactors. (26) But you shall not be so, but he who is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he who is chief, as he who does serve.” Luke 22:24-26

Christlikeness verses from the epistles on knowing Christ in the Spirit.

Notice the much deeper spiritual imagery of our relationship with Him, than we learned only in the Gospels. Doing is in the context of intimate communion with Him.

“(5) For those who live by the flesh focus on it, but those who live by the Spirit focus on the things of the Spirit. (6) For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. (7) Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. (8) So then, they who are in the flesh cannot please God. (9) But you are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if any man does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him.” Romans 8:5-9

“For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn in many brothers.” Romans 8:29

“Be followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.” 1 Corinthians 11:1

“But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory by the Spirit of the LORD.” 2 Corinthians 3:18

“(22) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, (23) meekness, self-control: there is no law against these.” Galatians 5:22-23

“(11) And He gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; (12) for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: (13) till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ:” Ephesians 4:11-13

“Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:” Philippians 2:5

“(8) Yes doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but dung, that I may win Christ, (9) and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through Christ’s faith, the righteousness which is of God by faith: (10) that I may know Him, and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death; (11) if by any means I might attain to the resurrection of the dead.” Philippians 3:8-11

“And you became our followers, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Spirit:” 1 Thessalonians 1:6

“(21) For even hereunto were you called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps: (22) Who did no sin, neither was guile found in His mouth: (23) Who, when He was reviled, did not revile again; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously:” 1 Peter 2:21-23

“Forasmuch then as Christ has suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin;” 1 Peter 4:1

“He, who says he remains in Him, walks like He did.” 1 John 2:6

“Hereby we perceive the love of God, because He laid down His life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.” 1 John 3:16
