I used to attend a Sunday evening small church led by a former missionary.
Things appeared fine at the beginning. Obviously intelligent, an easy manner, kind of professorial, yet with several decades of mission work in Asia. These in themselves gained him a hearing. His audience was heavily millennial; this demographic rarely asked questions.
As time drew on, something was amiss. Less and less mentions were being made of God. I found myself asking on a regular basis, “Where does Christ fit into this?” Aware of the necessary emphasis, the leader would again cross the T-s and dot the I-s. Yet if listening, one couldn’t help but wonder, “Does the church leadership know what he is saying and doing here?” Anytime one of them showed up, the leader could seamlessly insert the unplanned such that everything flowed smoothly and got Billy Graham’s stamp of approval. That he spoke of Christ in their presence, but otherwise left Him out in their absence, indicated intent.
What we who attended were hearing was intellect without heart, without His leading, and without Him. And when a leader leaves Him out in favor of man’s philosophy, he leaves the Spirit out too.
Let’s be clear. If an argument is truly intellectual, it is also spiritual. If it is not spiritual, neither is it intellectual – it is foolish.
When confronted about his departure from Christ, this leader’s response was to panic, run for the cover of the leadership to force submission to his authority.
There is authority, but not at the expense of Christ. Man is never your Head.
Expose pseudo-intellectualism for the empty philosophy it is. It is unworthy of Him. There is no freedom from sin in Christ in it, because there is no Christ in it. Your life has been redefined in Him, so anyone who is preaching or teaching anything else than Christ as your Life is preaching himself instead.
This man’s Twitter account continues to reveal his purpose. It is global and liberal. Trump appears the most and then only negatively. Almost non-existent is the name and proclamation of Christ. This should alert you to avoid such leaders, and expose them instead. Man is their god, not God.
“(1) In the meantime, when there were gathered together an innumerable multitude of people, to such an extent that they trod one upon another, he began to say to His disciples first of all, Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. (2) For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hidden, that shall not be known. (3) Therefore whatever you have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and what you have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops.” Luke 12:1-3
“(32) Whoever therefore shall confess Me before men, I will confess him also before My Father Who is in heaven. (33) But whoever shall deny Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father Who is in heaven. (34) Do not think that I have come to send peace on earth: I did not come to send peace, but a sword. (35) For I have come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. (36) And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household. (37) He who loves father or mother more than Me is unworthy of Me: and he who loves son or daughter more than Me is unworthy of Me. (38) And he who does not take his cross, and follows after Me, is unworthy of Me. (39) He who finds his life shall lose it: and he who loses his life for My sake shall find it.” Matthew 10:32-39
“(18) (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: (19) whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.) (20) for our conversation is in heaven; from where also we look for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ:” Philippians 3:18-20
